Founded in 2018 by Wendy Donston-Lavier, the Legacy Program was created in response to a growing need: supporting long-term youth as they transition out of care. What began as a small initiative has grown into a lifeline for many young people who once called Teen Haven their home.

Through heartfelt conversations and deep listening, our youth made it clear support shouldn’t end when care does. And from those voices, the Legacy Program was born.

A Program Built by Youth, for Youth

Our committee is made up of former youth from Teen Haven who understand the journey firsthand. They are here to give back, offer support, listen, and remind others that they are not alone and that there are people who care and want to see them thrive.

As youth homelessness continues to rise, the Legacy Program stands as a critical support system. For many, it’s the difference between feeling stuck and finding a path forward with loving, guiding hands.

Some of our youth continue their connection with Teen Haven staff even into adulthood. That enduring bond is the very heart of our mission.

How We Help

• A listening ear

• Hospital visits and check-ins

Legacy Giving Options

🧳 Suitcase Drive
Help a young person leave care with dignity and essential supplies:

• Hygiene Starter Kit in a Medium Suitcase – $200
  Includes shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soap, razors, feminine hygiene products, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a first aid kit.

• Linen Kit in a Large Suitcase – $300
  Includes bed-in-a-bag, pillow, towels, and facecloth.

🎓 College Starter Kit – $1,000
Support a youth starting post-secondary education with a laptop, backpack, and essential school supplies.

🏠 Rent Support – $2,400
Covers one year of subsidized housing for a youth aging out of care.

Mobility for good

Mobility for Good is a new program being offered by Telus to help support youth who have transitioned out of care (18+). Through this program, youth can obtain a free phone with a 0$ 2-year plan. After the 2-year plan expires, the plan is offered at $35/month plus tax.
